The Problems With Being Self Employed

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

The dream of being successfully self-employed is quite possibly innate to anyone who is employed. The idea of having the artistic freedom necessary to create winning marketing campaigns is probably one of the most often cited reasons why an employee would much rather prefer to be their own boss. Another reason is the fact that the relationship between employer and employee has broken down at some level and the employee realizes that certain needs have not been met and most certainly will remain unmet while in the employ of the company. Yet self employment itself is a bit of a double edged sword and not everyone is cut out for this mode of earning a living. If you are contemplating this step so as to work from home and throw off the shackles that corporate employment has become to you, think long and hard if you are truly ready.

There are a set of problems associated with being self employed, and perhaps the biggest obstacle a novice faces is his or her own self. Having a dream is easy; yet making this dream a reality demands a certain level of self discipline. Some personality types are not able to transit from reporting to a boss to reporting to no one yet remaining just as driven. Additionally, some personality types that benefited from the buffer the employer presented when it came to relationships with clients or customers, will sorely find their patience tested when a new client harshly criticizes the marketing strategy you present to them. Especially if you are in an artistic field, some of these criticisms could feel like personal attacks or even personal rejection, making this form of employment almost harder than working for someone else.

The second problem you will face is the question as to who will bankroll your endeavor. After all, it is not enough to have a great idea. You probably also have bills, a family to feed, and if nothing else the daily needs that have to be fulfilled. The number one challenge associated with this step is the fact that many a newbie will use credit cards to get set up. Yet the problems do not end there. How much liquidity you have at the onset will also determine your overall success since it dictates whether or not you can live with the fact that one client is taking an extraordinary long period of time to finally pay you. If one or maybe even more slow
clients spell financial trouble to such an extent that you have to touch your retirement savings or home equity, you might not yet be ready for self employment. It is important to begin being your own boss from a position of strength, not weakness.

The Professional Fulfillment of Self Employment

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Have you toyed with the idea of self employment? The odds are quite good that you have at least considered it in passing, but perhaps you were not sure if your skills were the kinds of abilities that would permit you to embark in business for yourself and successfully feed your family. Additionally, you might have wondered if indeed it would be possible to market a product without having a large marketing department stand behind you, and a second party paying your wages until the marketing campaigns prove themselves to be fruitful. Yet when you see those who have already embarked onto the road of self employment, you notice that while personal fulfillment most certainly ranks quite high in their satisfaction rating, there is also a sense of professional fulfillment.

The reasons are easily understood. Professional fulfillment comes from a job done well. You will have proven to yourself and the world that you can not only take an existing product – for example – and then devise a working marketing strategy, implement it, and follow through with strong sales. If you have previously done something similar for an employer, you will have the added satisfaction of no longer needing the boss to succeed. In a way this very thought will most likely have spurred you on to take greater risks, make bigger gambles, and no longer play it safe – only to be rewarded with success!

Your professional fulfillment begins with the fact that you will have proven to anyone beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are a force to be reckoned with and that you can do a job better than an already established company. Add to this the financial benefits, and your sense of professional success only skyrockets! How many have told you that for a long time you would be operating in the red and perhaps that you would never see a plus instead of a minus in front of your numbers? With your success you will have proven all of them wrong!

As you can see, there is no end to the sense of professional fulfillment that can be garnered simply from being self employed. So go ahead and take another look at that dream that you might have thought was impossible to fulfill and instead dust it off and give it the old college try. Take the time to dot your “i” and cross your “t” and spend countless hours in the office of a certified public accountant that will make sure you’re your tax obligations are met, and that you will not suffer any kind of liability problem. Take the challenge to wave good bye to your boss! You may very well be glad that you did!

Marketing Your Home Business

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Good for you, you’ve decided to open up a home business. Who knew that you could actually get it started and that you’d be able to follow through with it – well you have! Give yourself a pat on the back, and take a breather. But only a quick one, because one you have started up a home business, the hard part isn’t anywhere near finished.

As soon as you have started up your home business, you need to begin to market it. T his is something that you might not have even thought of, but it is something that needs to be done right away because this is where you are going to get your key clients from. Remember that this isn’t as hard as you might think it is. In fact, marketing your home business can be a snap, if you follow some key ideas.

First of all, you need to determine who your key audience is. Are you going to be marketing to kids, to adults, or to another age bracket? Are you going to market more to men or women or both? Is there anything else about your clientele that separates them from the world at large?

Once you have decided who you are going to be targeting, you can begin to market. There are several ways to do this. If your business is based in a large city or somewhere that has a lot of traffic, you can do other kinds or marketing like flyers, signs, and other print media. However, if you are running a business that is mostly online, and you hope that most of your clients will come from the internet, there are several things that you should do to make sure that marketing is a success.

First of all, you should place adds on web pages that you know will get seen by your key demographic. Find some popular sites for the group of people that you have to target and try to get some advertising on those sites. Also look for pages that everyone will see, and try to get as many links out there as possible that have your name and your businesses name on them.

You are also going to want to make sure that you are posting blogs and other articles all over the internet that somehow relate back to you. Get your name out there, do some surfing of your own. If you are in a certain type of business, go to some boards that deal with that business, and post on them with your internet address in your signature. The more advertising that you can do, the more people are going to see your website and hopefully click on the link to visit your page.

Using Social Networking Sites For Affiliate Marketing

You might not know this, but social networking sites aren’t just for teenagers anymore. In fact, social networking sites have evolved into something different altogether than what they once were networks composed mainly of teenage girls.

Today, social networking sites span the spectrum of demographic groups. While teenagers are still more apt to use them than older people, there are now niche social networking sites, which target people who all share some common interest, such as a skateboarding or investing.

Now, in addition to teenagers and adults, social networks are increasingly becoming used by another group businesses. That’s right: many businesses are now infiltrating social networks to advertise in some subtle manner and then replicate their message through systems that are already available within the social network.
The most prominent social network is MySpace, which boasts a membership base of 1.06 hundred million (and still growing!).

If the affiliate product you are selling has a broad appeal, you may want to use MySpace to market your product, as you will be able to reach the largest crowd quickly.

Now, there are a number of different ways in which you can market your affiliate product through MySpace. One way is to setup a profile, purchase what is called an adder and then begin adding friends to your list on a daily basis.

Depending on your goals, you may want to add a personal profile for yourself and then talk about your business/product on your page; or you may want to simply create a profile for your business and use that to market your product.

While you can send out bulletins advertising your product through MySpace, this is generally discouraged by the MySpace staff and could lead to your getting banned. It is probably a good idea to avoid this; instead, post related bulletins that don’t advertise your product, but talk about something similar.

This will drive interested visitors to your page, where they can learn more about the affiliate product you are selling. Note, however, that you will have to link to a non-affiliate page, as affiliate links are expressly forbid on MySpace.

Once you have had some experience marketing to the MySpace crowd, you will want to consider looking at other social networking sites.

One other large site is Friendster. Bear in mind though, that this site is generally very popular in South-East Asia and other Asian countries.

Facebook is another large social networking site, which caters specifically to college and high school students. You will also want to look for niche networking sites, which will afford you an opportunity to capture a more targeted audience.

Whichever sites you decide to use, keep the following in mind: your goal should be to develop a network of people who share a common interest and could potentially be interested in your specific product.
For this reason, it is always a good idea to think long term (i.e. don’t do things that are going to get you banned); instead, concentrate on building your network and introducing them to your affiliate product.

Why Is Viral Marketing So Powerful?

Viral marketing is without doubt one of the most effective forms of marketing out there, and one of the cheapest as well. While a number of people will spend huge sums of money advertising their online business, with no guarantees of making any return on their investment, the smart marketers are using the power of viral marketing to drive hordes of traffic to their sites. So why is viral marketing so powerful, and how can you utilize it to it's full potential?

Viral marketing is best achieved when you initially create something of value that will subsequently spread around the internet like a virus, as people pass it on and effectively promote it themselves, meaning no further action is required from yourself.

This makes viral marketing extremely powerful because it is often very cheap to implement, if done correctly, and the results can be almost instantaneous. Not only that, but as word spreads, the overall effects can be long-lasting and you can often continue to see results in years to come.

As you can see, this is a far quicker and more cost-effective way to drive targeted visitors to your site than spending many weeks and months trying to optimize your site to get high search engine rankings, for example, which can take several months before you start to see any results.

So how do you successfully create this viral effect?

Well the first method I want to discuss is writing articles. This is one of my favourite ways of generating traffic to my various websites. By writing good quality articles and distributing them to various article directories you can get significant traffic not only from the article directories themselves, but also as a result of ezine publishers picking up your article and running it in their ezine.

Because you can include a resource box with each article, where you can provide a link to your site, you can generate significant traffic from people clicking this link to find out more about you and your website. For greater distribution you can even approach website owners and ezine publishers directly to offer them your articles.

Another form of content that you can produce relatively easily, that can be passed around virally, are free reports and ebooks. Again by creating good content, placing links to your site within the content, and offering giveaway rights, you can effectively see your work being shared all over the internet as people offer it to their list, offer it as a bonus to a paid product, upload it to a forum, etc.

To create an even greater viral effect, you can make parts of the content rebrandable. For example, by placing affiliate links within your content, and stating that the recipient of the report can change these affiliate links to their own, there is a greater incentive for them to pass on the report to others.

Another way of creating a viral effect with your reports or ebooks is by not making the product free, but instead offering master resale rights to the product. This is also very effective because people can actually profit from selling as many copies of your work as possible.

The last point I want to make relates to the actual website that you are trying to drive traffic to. You should try and make your website as compelling and unique as possible so people will gladly talk about your site on forums, blogs, and social networking sites. Don't be afraid to be different or do things that other websites aren't doing because this is what will make people talk about your site and share it with other people.

Let me give you a case in point. One of my niche websites talks about tips and strategies for winning on betting exchanges. I was a full-time trader on the exchanges for four years so I know quite a lot about this area. Anyway, instead of selling this information in the form of an ebook, like many marketers are doing, I gave away this information for free on my site.

This had a dramatic viral effect because although I have promoted the site to some extent, the vast majority of my traffic (around 400 visitors per day) comes from other people talking about my site on forums, discussion boards, and social networking sites. Therefore this means I have a constant supply of traffic to my site with no additional effort needed from myself. I simply cash the cheques from the strategically placed affiliate links on my site.

So to conclude, if you haven't yet considered viral marketing as a way of driving traffic to your site, then you should seriously start considering it. It's one of the most underused but effective ways of driving traffic to your site.

Make Money Online The Easy Way

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Making money is something that many people take for granted in this world. However, there are many more ways that you can make money, even by just surfing the web. Some people who work at home, or who want to make some extra money, take advantage of something that they can do in order to make some money online.

Of course, there are the obvious ways. You can sell products or services online and make money this way. This works if you have a basement full of stuff you want to get rid of, or if you know of some places where you can buy things cheaply that can be sold for more money. Lots of times people take a long time to figure out what they want to sell on line but once they do they find themselves making quite a bit of money.

There are other things that you can do to make money online. For instance, you can allow advertising to be on your site, and you can make a part of the profits for these adds. If you have lot of sites that get lots of traffic, for whatever reason, you can make some money by allowing adds to be put on your sites. Some of the adds will get you money whenever they are clicked on, and others will get you a small amount of money just for being on the site.

There are also things that you can do to make money online. There are many online jobs that you can get, as long as you are sure you are doing the research so that you are not being scammed in any way and the jobs are actually jobs that you are capable of doing. If you can find some of these small jobs, you can quickly add them up to a bigger pay check. For instance, there are some jobs that will pay you for going to different forums and adding in on the discussions. If you like to go and talk online, this is a great way to get money because you are getting paid to do something that you might do anyway.

Try not to stress too much about making lots of money online right away. This is something that builds up over time and something that takes a lot of practice. IT takes awhile to find the sites that will pay you to do certain things, and it takes time to make sure that the work you are doing is not worth more than you are being paid. Once you have established some basic jobs and you are able to do them quickly and easily, you are going to find that making money online is much easier than you thought it was.

Effectively Using Overture/Yahoo To Get Website Visitors

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell

http://www.eSmartJob.com

Overture or now known as Yahoo because of Yahoo’s takeover, was the original inventor of the use of the P4P or Pay for Performance. Overture saw that the internet was fast becoming the easiest and most convenient way to shop, and advertising was going to hit at an all time high because of the many businesses in the arena.

To get a person to go to a site than others, it needs to be very visible. Providing ads that could direct potential consumers and costumers to their site would allow them to have an increase in traffic as well as sales. Yahoo provides a service that can put a site or company’s ad in their sites that can be shown when certain keywords are inputted.

Yahoo offers a chance for any company to increase their traffic by using their services. With more people being aware of your site, there would be more traffic and visitors to your site given the chance to view your pages as well as your products. With even a small percentage of successful sales, with a high traffic volume this could still be a substantial figure for your company.

Getting a consistent substantial flow of website visitors is every company’s goal. Many methods are devised and utilized to ensure that there would be more people to boost the sales and to be aware of the existence of such a product or service. Website visitors are potentially the life blood of your internet based business.

Yahoo/Overture utilizes the same principle as Google’s Adwords. In fact, they are very similar to each other that they use keyword and keyword phrase searches and to determine which ads to show per search. When a person types in a keyword or keyword phrase to search for anything, the search engines gives out the results in a page. Then at the right side of the page, you will see selected ads that have paid for their ads to be viewed with certain keywords and keyword phrases searched.

For example, Lets say you run a car parts retail/wholesale site. You choose keywords that can prompt or trigger your ads to be shown in the page when a keyword is searched. When a search engine user types in Honda Accord, your ad may come up if you have designated that as one of your keywords. You don’t need to fully optimize your site with Search Engine Optimization methods and techniques.

While some labor so hard to make their site one of the high ranking sites per keyword search, you get the chance to be on the top of the list or at least in the first page of a search result increasing your chance to be clicked on. With that, you drive traffic and website visitors to your site a lot faster.

You will have to pony up some cash when using this service though. There are different ways Yahoo/Overture will charge you. It may be in the number of Keywords or Keyword phrases your ad uses or in the many times your ad is clicked on. Others offer many other services like having your ad show up not only in the search engine pages but also with some third party sites.

Third party sites support ads that have the same theme or niche as them. With more areas your ad is shown, you increase the chances of people knowing about your site or product. With more website visitors you increase the sales of your site which makes your investment with your ads a wise one.

With so many competitions in the internet based businesses, it is necessary to take a huge leap forward from the pack by advertising. Yahoo/Overture will be a great place to start. Many have utilized their services and have reaped the rewards of this decision. It’s a marketing strategy that will increase your website visitors as well as increase your sales resulting to profit.

It takes money to make money, while there are some methods that are basically low cost or free, using a marketing service such as what Yahoo/Overture offers will provide results faster and on a larger scale. Many businesses have learned this the hard way, don’t be counted with them.

Want to Work At Home? Perhaps Self-Employment Or Telecommuting Will Make It

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

The typical dream image of the person working at home almost always involves pink fuzzy slippers, an oversized coffee mug, and a relaxed atmosphere. Yet not all that glitters is gold, and there are some very serious pitfalls that have to be avoided in order to make working at home a profitable reality for anyone who is willing to give it a try. To this end, there are usually two avenues available to anyone ready to give it a go: self employment and telecommuting. While both of these options will allow you to stay at home in pursuit of profit, they each have their pitfalls, and before you decide to embark on either one of them, make sure that you weight the pros and cons!

For example, while so many late night commercials are filled with smiling mothers who are seeing their little ones off to school only to return home at a leisurely pace to sell a product for an international company. Quite often this product is a nutritional supplement for weight loss, beauty, or overall health. What the commercials fail to mention is the fact that some of these supplements are dangerous to people with certain ailments, and the fear of not making a sale will quite often put blinders on anyone trying to make a living while earning only straight commissions. If you are a self-employed representative for such a supplement company, the odds are good that in case of a problem a customer will come looking to you as well as the company for compensation. Unless you have taken proper legal steps to protect your home and assets, you may end up losing everything you have worked so hard to achieve!

While this may make you now consider telecommuting, keep in mind that this field has its pitfalls as well. For example, while your boss in the office will appreciate your hard work and dedication when she or he sees you burning the midnight oil to get a project finished, she or he will most likely not have a lot of appreciation for you when you do the same thing at home. Conversely, if you do manage to achieve the almost impossible deadlines while telecommuting, the odds are good that you will be facing tighter and tighter deadlines. Since you are most likely not an hourly employee, this means that you may end up working 20 hours in one day, and still only get paid what you normally would. As you can see, it does not add up to profit.

To this end, sit down and find out exactly what it will take to make your work at home dream a profitable reality. Do not too quickly lunge at an opportunity that at second glance is little more than an anchor weighing you down.

The Joys of Working at Home

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

In the fast paced job market, it might seem like there is never enough time to do what you really want to do – be at home with your families and take care of what you need to take care of while you are there. Luckily, now there are many ways that you can work from home. There are many joys of being able to work from home, and make enough money to actually make it worth it.

First of all, if you have children, you are going to get to be there for them during the day when they are young, and after school when they are older. You will never get the chance to be there for your children again, because once they grow up, that’s it! So, you should take every opportunity to be near them and take care of them when they are young. Also, by working from home, you can make sure that you aren’t having to pay for child care. Most of the time, people end up spending the money that they make working directly on child care, and unless they love their jobs and need to do their jobs, it simply isn’t worth it for someone to work part time just enough to pay someone else to take care of their kids while they are working. Think about how nice it would be to be able to actually make money, and not need to spend any of it on childcare.

Also, there is a certain freedom that comes along with working from home. By being at home and staying at home you are there to tackle things that come up and to keep a handle on the way that the house operates. You are there to be in charge. No more leaving in the dark and coming home after the sun has set for the day. And no more trying to do all of the house work and chores on the weekends. You can simply allow yourself to be at home and enjoy the life that you are living.

Remember that the best part of working at home is getting to do the things that you really enjoy and getting to do them in your own environment. Nothing can beat the fact that you are going to be able to stay at home with your family and with your house chores, and still be able to make just as much money as if you were working at a job for 40 hours a week. There are many ways that you can work from home, and getting to know what these ways are is just the beginning to a successful career.

Time Management Tools for Those Earning Extra Income At Home

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Working at home to earn some extra income is a blessing for most, but for some it can become a nightmare in very little time. While it may seem odd that you need to incorporate time management tools in your effort to make ends meet by simply working from a location where you are already – your home – it is imperative that you remember that structured time will be by far more productive than simply working as the mood hits you. Similarly, if you are not on the top of your game with simple time management devices, you might quite possibly find yourself at the end of the day with precious little to show for the deadlines you need to meet the next morning. Miss a few deadlines, and the odds are that you will lose that wonderful business opportunity that allows you to earn extra income while working at home.

Time management tools are greatly varied, depending on your needs. Thus, it is quite possible to create a plan that works for you individually as well as for the task you will be performing. To this end, quite possibly the most important technique that will help you to remain focused while earning the extra income is to set an objective for each day that you have work to do at home. Define your goal for the, identify which projects need to be completed and how you need to pace yourself to see them through to completion. The easiest way to achieve this is simply by breaking down your project into its varied components, assigning time values to them and then meeting these deadlines one at a time. The small sense of accomplishment you will feel when you achieve one or more of the deadlines will go a long ways to ensuring that you do not suffer from burnout or other frustrations which will take the joy out of earning extra income.

One of the most overlooked time management tools for those working earning income is the schedule and calendar. It is not enough to simply block out a period time that you will use to work, but you will need to augment this block with reminders, as well as frequent breaks; after all, earning extra income simply means that you have another source of income and working two jobs may be more than you bargained for when you took on this opportunity. Adding frequent breaks to your schedule is a good idea. This also permits you to interact with friends and family who will not mind the extra income you are earning as long as it does not interfere with your ability to also spend time with them. In the long run, this form of scheduling will benefit you as much as it benefits them.

Home Business, Kids, Taxes And Your Sanity

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

To maintain your sanity while working at home, use good common sense, a little street smarts and know what battles to fight, or not to fight, with your spouse. This will help you reach your home business goals, while permitting you to maintain your sanity and keep your home life together.

Starting any new business can be a stressful undertaking. There are a countless number of decisions to make and priorities to contemplate, the budget needs scrutinized, the new secretary quits before the end of the first week, the struggles are countless. When starting a home business on your own, you can add numerous other unique obstacles to the list. Being aware of these possible drawbacks, and planning for them can help you maintain your sanity.

Family members and friends will most likely think since you work at home you will be accessible to them all of the time. Unplanned visits from your parents or friends can set your work back hours. They might have the impression that you are semi retired, or that your business runs by itself. Setting plain and clear rules regarding your schedule and accessibility for phone calls and visits can prevent this type of misconception early on in the life of your home business.

If you are going to have your small children at home with you while you work, first off good luck! Even the most carefully planned schedule can rapidly become fodder for any three year old. My three year old thinks the computer is for watching Barney the dinosaur videos and that I am the remote control. Or while I am busy working it would be a good time to see if the dog will fit into the garbage can. Getting up a few hours before the kids is often the best way to increase your productivity while those little angels are still sound asleep.

Coming up with a contingency plan for the days when an increased workload involves more attention than normal is a great way to divert disasters before they happen. Try to find some local babysitters who are prepared to come to your house and help out when needed. Enlist friends and family to offer occasional coverage for a few hours to allow you to work without interruptions. I have a sixteen year old daughter who can help watch the tree year old, but only for an about an hour or so until the little guy starts throwing toy trucks and trains at her. But still anything that helps you keep focused even for an hour is a good investment in maintaining your sanity.

My wife and I both work at home and that can also present a major challenge in maintaining our sanity! It started out pleasant enough but when kids are screaming at each other we both think that our work is more important than the others. I usually loose this battle and have since decided that my sanity, marriage and kids come before my business. So I usually tend to my business at night or get up early in the morning to get things done.

Having your own home business does have a few benefits, most notable at tax time. Discuss your business with a tax expert or accountant early on and equip yourself with the knowledge necessary to help save you time and money when filing your first year's business taxes. You may be able to deduct some of your homes expenses, such as telephone, gas, electric, water, and others. So be sure to keep accurate records of these items as well of direct business expenses. Keeping your expense records organized throughout the year will also help maintain your sanity come April.

To maintain your sanity while working at home, use good common sense, a little street smarts and know what battles to fight, or not to fight, with your spouse. This will help you reach your home business goals, while permitting you to maintain your sanity and keep your home life together.

Making the Most of a Business Opportunity

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

The Internet is home of the business opportunity ad. While some are not legit, others do have the potential of netting you a pretty penny. Once you have found such an opportunity, it is important that you make the most of it – but to do so wisely, you will need to observe a few tips and tricks that will not only help you to earn money, but also protect you from losing any of your hard earned cash in the process.

When you are starting out in pursuit of your business opportunity, you will need to juggle your full time job and your extracurricular pursuit. While it might be tempting to throw caution to the wind, quit your job and pursue the opportunity full time, it is extremely unwise to do so. You will still have bills, and if you have a family, it is unfair to expect them to suddenly
make do without the little extras they have come to appreciate. Instead, go ahead and work your regular job while expanding on your business opportunity. This will prevent you from having to give up after a few unsuccessful months with maxed out credit cards.

Building a business takes time, and if you involve friends and family, you will probably be able to do so a lot faster. Of course, this should not mean that you try to peddle your nutritional supplements that are part of the business you are building at every family reunion. Instead, you might be able to involve some family members in the business end itself. Do you need help with taxes? Maybe an aunt is good at doing them! Do you have questions about licenses and insurance? If you have a stay at home dad who is willing to do some work in exchange for a bit of money, these headaches could be taken away from you. In short, rare is the entrepreneur who makes money all by her or himself from the basement, yet plentiful is the entrepreneur who – with the help of friends and family – succeeded!

Your business opportunity requires exposure, yet there is more to advertising than paying for a three by five ad in the local rag. Instead, attend trade shows, hand out flyers, print up business cards (not the free ones that carry another company’s logo on the back) and network with other entrepreneurs. Do not stay home when you are trying to build a business, but instead go to where the business world is located and get out the word! This ensures that you will truly make the most of your business opportunity without having to spend money you may not yet have earned on costly advertisements that may not be as effective as you had hoped.

Are Home Based Businesses Encouraging Social Isolation?

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Sociologists have studied what has been termed “cocooning” very carefully since the explosion of the world wide web. Cocooning is the process of social isolation where a society withdraws from physical interaction with each other. This “hermit-like” behavior can lead to the decline of many cultural and social traditions. Cocooning also affects the way we interact with other when do finally leave the house and meet face to face.

The availability and popularity of the internet has changed the way that humans communicate and interact. We can spend hours in chat rooms pretending to be beautiful, successful and brilliant when in fact we are average looking, overweight and unemployed. The person at the other end of the keyboard has no way of verifying our claims or disproving them.

Discussion over the internet removes an essential aspect of communication: body language. Such things as posturing, fidgeting and eye contact all are unconscious transmitters of our true intentions. We learn as small children not to make eye contact when telling a lie and to cross our arms to distance ourselves from unpleasant people or situations. As of today, the computer screen has no way of converting these communication skills into data that can be observed as overtones in the written text of a conversation.

This cocooning may affect the communication skills of future generations. While excelling at expressing themselves through the written word, our children may lack the skills to give a convincing speech in public of carry on a comfortable conversation while waiting in line at the grocery store. Some youth even use text messaging to communicate when they are in the same room.

The prevalence of home based businesses may be in part due to this preference for cocooning and nonverbal communication. It is perfectly acceptable to home school your children, run a business from your home, email your mother and fax your clients. You can even order a pizza, shop for a birthday gift and have your groceries delivered: all without any verbal communication.

As in everything in life, a balance is needed. If you email your mother today, call her tomorrow and visit her on the weekend. If you work from home, make time to visit the park. Join social groups rather that internet message forums. Limit the amount of time that your children use the internet and cell phone for text messaging. Encourage teens to take a speech or debate class along with that computer programming class when signing up for college courses.

Many great social traditions like wedding rituals and back yard barbeques may someday soon be in danger of extinction. We all must do our part to keep the spark of social interraction alive for future generations.

Understanding the Pitfalls for Affiliate Marketing

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

While work at home moms are often the favorite target for Internet scammers, website owners are a close second. You own a website and are possibly paying a bit of money to keep the site running. Do you not wish you could make some money with the website you work so hard to maintain? Imagine how wonderful it would be if you could you’re your hobby into a real business that would not only pay for itself, but even offer you a few extras that could be put
to good use for the kids, or your family. To a webmaster, affiliate marketing is almost always the answer to this dilemma. In and of itself, affiliate marketing is a wonderful opportunity share in the profits of a reputable company by displaying their links and banners, and allowing interested parties to visit those sites and perhaps purchase a product. When they do so, the company will often offer you a small percentage of the sale as a finder’s fee.

Yet there is a bit of a seedy underbelly to the affiliate Marketing industry that will actually jeopardize your good name as a webmaster and will also result in payouts that are pennies on the dollar. For example, have you ever been surfing the web only to suddenly stumble across a website that touts an amazing nutritional supplement that does it all? Weight loss for the
overweight, hair growth for the bald, an increased sexual stamina for those lacking it and a host of other items are cured or corrected with a pill after breakfast, lunch and dinner. These miracle cures are touted on the website via a long list of testimonials, and you can almost always recognize the feel of these sites simply by the long list of text they sport, the
varying fonts employed, and also the different colors these words are written in. you may simply shrug your shoulders at such a site until – about halfway down – you see a copy of a commission check the webmaster has posted and suddenly he or she has your undivided attention. The check is small enough to be realistic yet big enough to have you consider what you could to with the money and how it could ease the tension at home from lack of disposable income.

When you are hooked, the spiel usually involves a site owner who is so successful that he or she has decided to take on two or three qualified novices and train them to do the business as well. This involves selling the miracle product to your friends and neighbors and then just sitting back and waiting for the money to roll in. Additionally, you will need to post banners on your website. What has just happened, in a nutshell, is an affiliate scam that ties your success directly into a multi-level marketing scheme. While your links will attract more interested parties to the originator’s website, you are meanwhile alienating your friends and families by the legal drugs you are peddling. This is not what affiliate marketing is all about, and it is important that you understand the implications of your putting links or banners of any business on your website.

To Work At Home, Internet Business Resource Materials Are Key

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

If you are ready to work at home, internet business resource materials and websites that offer them are the key to success. While many a novice may put together a website in the hopes of attracting traffic, those in the know are well aware that to successfully work at home, internet business resource
websites will not only provide them with tips and tricks of the trade, but quite often also provide much needed opportunities for networking to drive additional traffic to the business website.

For example, if you own a doggie daycare and work at home, internet business resource materials will help you to put your business’ name on the map! You will receive new clients from your local area simply because they may have been looking for just someone like you to provide this service, but they found the local Yellow Pages to labyrinthine to truly have their needs met. Additionally, many a client or customer wants a bit more information about a business before they commit to making a telephone call.

Thus, when you work at home, internet business resource materials could in many ways be considered as important as your advertising dollars spent! Yet did you know that this will also permit you to branch out? For example, the owner of the doggie daycare will be able to branch out by creating a customized doggy treat or biscuit that is being sold at the facility. For those who access the site from across the country, the day care portion may not be of interest, but the biscuit might be! Add to this shampoo, conditioners, and other products, and you can quickly see how you can work at home - internet business resource sites will grow your business for you – and become successful even in other states of countries!

Turnkey Internet Business Getting A Reliable System Up And Running

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Engaging in an online business requires some system that could help one to facilitate each transaction. If you are one of those people who are engaged in online business and are having trouble keeping track of your online transactions, you should look into the possibility of getting a turnkey internet business software to help you organize things at your end. The worst thing that you could do when starting up a business is to repel customers by having a very poor system of taking and delivering orders to your clients. In most cases, customers who have experience a lot of difficulties during their first transactions with your company will not really come back again to do business with you. Losing a lot of clients on your first few months of operations could be very bad for your business so make sure that you set your systems up properly.

Getting a turnkey internet business software is easy. There are many turnkey programs and software that you can find in the market today. However, you should take note that not all turnkey software may be suitable for you and your business. If you really want to run your business with relative ease, you should first evaluate what you need before you start hunting for a turnkey internet business software. Make sure that you know what your business need at the moment by conducting an evaluation of your present systems.

Once you have figured out what your business need at the moment, look for software that would be easy to use. Look for that menu driven software that are so user friendly that it would only take couple of minutes for you and your clients to figure out how to use. Do not choose that software that is so elaborate that you will easily get lost in it. Remember that you are getting a turnkey internet business software to help you organize everything in a manner that would be easy for you and your clients to figure out so don't get things.

Now, one of the best ways for you to find the right software to use in your business is to ask for referral from friends and relatives who are also into online business. If you have a friend or relative who is using certain business software to help him or her organize things, you should ask him or her to show you how things work. Study that system and find out if it is applicable to your business too. Never get a software without really getting enough information of how it works. You must always remember that a software would cost you some money and if you don't want to waste your money on something that you can't really use at all, you better do your homework.

How to Change the World: The 120 Day Wonder: How to Evangelize a Blog

How to Change the World: The 120 Day Wonder: How to Evangelize a Blog

I know a fair amount about evangelism and a little bit about blogging, so I've combined the two in order to provide some insights into the evangelism of a blog. Granted, I've only been at blogging for 120 days or so, but marketing is marketing, right?

1. Think “book” not “diary.” First, a bit of philosophy: my suggestion is that you think of your blog as a "product." A good analogy is the difference between a diary and a book. When you write a diary, it contains your spontaneous thoughts and feelings. You have no plans for others to read it. By contrast, if you write a book, from day one you should be thinking about spreading the word about it. If you want to evangelize your blog, then think “book” not “diary” and market the heck out of it.

2. Answer the little man. Now that you're thinking of your blog as a product, ask yourself if it's a good product. A useful test is to imagine that there's a little man sitting on your shoulder reading what you're writing. Every time you write an entry, he says, “So what? Who gives a shiitake?” If you can't answer the little man, then you don't have a good blog/product. Take it from someone who's tried: It's tough to market crap, so make sure you have something worth saying. Or, write a diary and keep it to yourself.

3. Collect email addresses. The first piece of advice that I give authors who want to evangelize their book is to accumulate email addresses. (The second piece of advice is to start blogging before the book comes out.) When I launched The Art of the Start, I sent out email to 95,000 people who had made contact with Garage in the past nine years by attending our conferences, submitting business plans, ... whatever. Also a team of student interns compiled a database of every entrepreneurial organization on the planet for me.

When I started this blog, I sent out 10,000 email announcements. (I didn't use the entire Garage database because I thought that was too tacky even for me.) You may not have the ability to collect email on this scale but collect them nonetheless. For example, when a bozo includes you on a large carbon-copy email, mine the addresses. However, don't buy address lists or spam people (I define "spam" as sending email to someone who has never sent me one) because for email promotion to work, you must know the recipient--or be known by the recipient.

Two more email related recommendations. First, when you answer an email, stick in a “by the way” that mentions your blog. (The only email responses that I send that don't make reference to my blog are the ones that are responses to an email about my blog.) Second, your email signature should contain your blog address.

4. Collect links for blog rolling. This is something I wish I had done on day one, but I was totally ignorant of this linking thing. If I had to do it over again, I would look for all the interesting blogs that cover similar topics to my blog. Then, on day one I would have blog rolled them all and ensured that Technorati pinged my blog, so that the bloggers might find out that I existed. I use Blogrolling.com to create my current blog roll.

Now that I understand how linking works, I use NetNewsWire and Endo to look for new links to my blog, and I find sites that I would have never seen were it not for their links to my site. Basically, you want bloggers to find out about you because you linked to them. You never know what they might do for you.

5. Scoop stuff. There's a very interesting honor system in blogging. Suppose Blogger A finds an obscure article and posts it to his blog. Blogger B reads about it on Blogger A's blog and links to it. However Blogger B doesn't link only to the article; she also links to Blogger A to give him credit for finding the article.

This means that if you hustle and scoop stuff, other bloggers will link to you. For example, when I found and publicized the Stanford Social Innovation Review article by Jeffrey Pfeffer and Bob Sutton, many other bloggers linked to my blog, not just the article itself. I was surprised by this. Bottom line: if you want lots of people to link to you, read voraciously and find cool stuff first. As a Japanese philosopher once said, "Eat like a bird, and poop like an elephant."

6. Supplement other bloggers with a followup entries. Read the blogs of the top fifty or so bloggers (using Technorati's ranking is fine) and see if you have in-depth knowledge about their topics. Then instead of leaving the typical, dumb shiitake comment (“I think you're an orifice who shouldn't make money recommending products that you've invested in.”), craft a real essay that complements the blogger's entry.

When someone does this for my entries, I want to get down on my knees and thank God because it's less stuff that I have to write. Look at this example that was a followup for my entry about recruiting. I don't know about other bloggers, but one of the biggest challenges I face is feeding the content beast. If you can help me feed it, I'll gladly link to you and give you publicity.

7. Acknowledge and respond to commenters. Only good things can happen when you read all the comments in your blog and respond to them. It makes commenters return to your blog. This, in turn, makes commenters feel like they are part of your blog's community which makes them tell more people to read your blog.

(I'd like to do this better, but I've created a monster. I don't have any quantitative evidence, but it sure seems like a I get large volume of comments to my entries. There are days that I simply can't keep up, so forgive me.)

8. Ask for help. If you are providing value in your blog, don't hesitate to ask for your readers to help. If you don't ask, you don't get. You don't have to be as blatant as I am in the desire to climb Technorati's ranking, but in a perfect world, you provide something in your blog and your readership will want to reciprocate by helping you spread the word.

9. Be bold. I'm not saying you should intentionally piss other bloggers off, but if you can't speak your mind on your own blog, we might as well all give up and stay on the porch. This is a fascinating thing about blogging: Even when people torch you, they link to your site. I would have thought that you don't link. My logic was: Why give someone you torched any exposure?

10. Make it easy to join up. A blogger named Steve Nipper showed me the list about this. I had no idea what Feedburner and FeedBlitz did until he told me about them. The bottom line is that you should enable your readers to get to your blog in multiple ways. It's no different than distributing physical products through multiple channels.

May you use this knowledge to rise in Technorati and make the A List. Just say hello as you pass me by--someday I'll be sucking up to you. :-)

Online Business: WhenYou Want To Have Some Control Over Your Time

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Are you sick and tired of not having any control over your time? If you have been trying to find away out of the 8 to 5 work routine in the office, you might want to look into the areas of online business. The good thing about a "work home business internet online" is that you can have control over your work schedule. If you are running your own home business, you can work in the comforts of your home at your own convenient time.

Engaging in a "work at home business internet online" has many benefits aside from letting you have some control over your working schedule. If you are a young parent who needs to take care of your baby, you can still earn good money by engaging in a "work at home business internet online" business. Since you are working at home, you can do some work in between your baby's feeding time or when your baby is sound asleep.

What to do when working online while taking care of your baby

Having a baby is becoming more and more expensive these days. Although your spouse may have a fulltime job, the income that he or she generates from the job may not really be enough to pay all your bills and keep the family comfortable. With the rapid increase in the cost of living all over the country, it is often necessary to have two adults working and earning income for the whole family. If you do not have enough savings to last until your baby is old enough for you to leave to a babysitter while you get a fulltime office job, you should make it a point to find another way to help earn money for the whole family.

Working online while taking care of your baby is one of the most convenient ways for you to earn some money to keep your family comfortable. A "work at home business internet online" could be one of the best options for you to earn money while taking care of your baby. If your baby is still very small, you can work in the baby's room while the baby is sleeping. You can bring your laptop in the baby's room and set up a small stable on the one corner of the room and work from there. Working close to your baby will help you monitor your baby while you work. Besides, being close by work save you from the trouble of having to run from one place to another when your baby starts crying.

In the event where you will need to answer or make some calls on the phone while your baby sleeps, it would be a good idea to drag the phone jut outside of your baby's room so that you can work from there. Do not make your calls or answer the phone inside the room of your baby if you do not want to risk waking up your baby.

Avertising Your Internet Home Base Business Opportunity Locally

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Avertising your internet home base business opportunity locally is not that difficult to do. As a matter of fact, if you are serious about getting
clients to buy into your internet home base business opportunity, you will need to pay some close attention to the local markets. One such avenue is
the local newspaper. While many an internet business may promote their services in the big national papers, it is the savvy advertiser who will spread the word about her or his opportunity in the truly local news outlets.

An internet home base business opportunity may be something that a reader of the local paper is looking for. In turn, it might be something that a friend or acquaintance is in search of. Another good way for maximizing the exposure of your internet home base business opportunity is to rely on radio spots. To many this kind of advertising is akin to big-timing it, and depending what your advertising budget is, it may very well be. On the other hand, local radio stations are the key to reaching large segments of the population who may not be purchasing newspapers or magazines and who might never find out about your internet home base business opportunity any other way.

You may need to start out small with the local stations, but if you can work your way up to having an actual host-read spot, you will most certainly reap great monetary rewards from your investment. If you are still unsure about advertising either in print or on the airwaves, there is a third mode of local advertising that will work: your presence at a local fair, volunteer event, or holiday promotion. You can give your name a lot of play by sponsoring a booth, donating goods or services, or giving away freebies at the events. Whatever exposure you will be able to gain for your business opportunity will be worth the time and money spent on promoting it.

Using Newsprint To Introduce Your Internet Business Model To New Clients

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

If you are in the online business, then your Internet business mode undoubtedly includes copious means of advertising. Yet are you ensuring that the word about your business truly reaches every potential client that is out there? It is interesting to note that many a web-based business advertises on the ‘Net, yet disregards other avenues of spreading the word almost entirely. Granted, many a customer or client will probably have access to the World Wide Web, but if your Internet business model relies only on those browsers who are online at the moment, you are shortchanging yourself tremendously.

For example, for a while in the late nineties banner ads were all the rage. Then they got into disrepute when eager affiliates littered their websites with spinning, dancing, and color changing and otherwise annoying ads as part of their own Internet business model. Yet as of late the next generation of banner ads has made a comeback; these ads are more subdued and much classier than their predecessors and you are undoubtedly already tuned in to this mode of advertising.

Yet have you considered advertising in major newspapers? Granted, not
everyone who reads a paper with have access to the Web, but if your Internet
business model includes marketing to those who might not have a personal computer, you are still marketing to those who might have a need. Just like the person who does not own a truck is persuaded to borrow a friend’s truck for the annual hardware store blow out sale to purchase that lawnmower he always wanted, the person who does not own a computer will be persuaded to borrow a friend’s computer to purchase the widget you are selling which is not for sale in the local store. As you can see, if you are not using newsprint as part of your Internet business model, you are truly missing out on a whole new segment of the market!

Internet Business Income Opportunity: Finding A Business That Will Suit Your Present Needs

Copyright © Jeff Houdyschell
http://www.eSmartJob.com

Have you always wanted to move back home and take care of your ailing parent? If you have been thinking of moving back home to take care of your ailing parent, you should start planning on setting up an online business so that you can still earn good income without leaving the comforts of your home. There are many internet business income opportunity that you can find online so make the most of the online resources that you can find.

Finding the right internet business income opportunity could be very challenging especially if you have not really tried setting up your own business before. There are many things that you will need to consider when you are putting up an online business. First, you will need to find an internet business income opportunity that will suit your present skills.

If you are good at designing websites of writing some articles, you should work without the realms of your skills. It is always very important to work within your sphere of expertise so that you will no longer spend so much time learning about new things. Although learning new things could be very interesting, you may not really have enough time to spend on learning new tricks anymore especially if you are already running out of time and money.

The second thing that you will need to consider when you want to engage in an internet business income opportunity is the amount of resources that you will need to put up as capital. Note that if you want to want to start a business with small capital, you should first make a study of the every opportunity present in the field. You must have enough information on how things work on a certain online business before you engage into it so that you will not waste too much time and money trying to work something out.

If you are on a tight budget, you should make it a point to find one of those businesses that would require you minimal capital to get started. Do not start a very ambitious project that would require you to put considerable amount of money as capital if you do not want to drain your resources even before you actually get started. Start small if you have to and then slowly expand your business later on. Take your time to get things to a new level.

The third consideration that you must look into when you are looking for an internet business income opportunity is the sustainability of the undertaking. If you really want to be able to spend more time with your ailing parent without worrying where you will get money to pay the bills and buy some food, you should find an online business that could provide you with a long term income.

Finding An Internet Based Business Opportunity

An internet based business opportunity is probably just a few keystrokes
away. Granted, there are a few bad apples in the barrel that spoil it for
many, but if you use common sense, pay attention to the details of the
internet based business opportunity as they are disclosed, and are honest
with yourself about your goals, hopes, and dreams, then you will be able to
take advantage of many such offers or maybe just one, depending on the
amount of time you are willing to devote to it.

Finding an internet based business opportunity is a lot like finding a
suitable hobby: it will take some trial and error, a bit of experimenting,
and the willingness to take chances you might not have considered at the
onset. For example, quite possibly the easiest internet based business
opportunity is affiliate marketing. If you own or contribute to a website
with webmaster access, you will be able to put affiliate links on this site.
The goal is to persuade the people who visit your site to also visit the
site of the affiliate sponsor. Some pay by the amount of traffic you
generate, but most will pay you a percentage of whatever sale is generated
by your link.

Depending on the amount of time you are willing to devote to the site and
growing its popularity, this may be a lucrative way of making money with an
internet based business opportunity. Other business opportunities may take
the form of providing services, such as telephone support, for already
existing companies. This usually means that you will need to purchase
specialized equipment and go through a training process that is company
sponsored. The time requirement is akin to having a part time job in that
you will need to devote bigger chunks of time to the effort.

Taking Advantage of an Internet Based Business Opportunity

If you don’t have your own concept of an Internet based business in mind, there are plenty of opportunities available for the taking. If you’re a good sales person, reseller and network marketing opportunities abound. How successful you may be with an Internet based business opportunity, however, is contingent upon how much time you wish to devote and how hard you want to work. Isn’t that true in any business, though? Isn’t it also the reason some people are content to work for others, because they don’t want the extra work that is involved in having their own business. This is perhaps the reason some people are very successful and others fail to achieve any degree of success on the Internet.

If you have an idea of your own such as crafts that you want to sell, or even a book you have written that you desire to market and sell from a website, you are far ahead of those who don’t have a concept of what type of Internet based business opportunity interests them. However, that doesn’t mean that without your own concept, you cannot be success, but you do need to think about what you would like to do. For example, the Internet is infiltrated with affiliate programs, but you don’t want to go in blind and start signing up for all of them with a dream of making some serious money.

You want to choose a product line that you find interesting and work with that. If you enjoy books, you may want to work with some of the booksellers such as Borders and Barnes and Noble. Remember, the concept behind these is to draw people to your website, so it’s not enough to submit your site to the search engines and expect that everyone will come running to visit your site. No matter what Internet based business opportunity you choose, you will need to advertise constantly in order to be a success.

Advertising Your Home Base Internet Business

Advertising your home base internet business is not as hard as it sounds. As a matter of fact, more and more savvy methods of advertising are cropping up that help entrepreneurs to not only get the word out about their home base internet business, but to provide useful services to the community while doing so. Sure, in the early days of internet marketing it was customary to
design banner ads that were full of neon colors and moving characters. Webmasters soon discovered that customers did not appreciate this kind of advertising and soon eliminated much of it from their pages.

This left those with a home base internet business scrambling for new solutions. While banner ads are still around, they have undergone a great change. They are now tastefully designed with an eye to wittiness rather than shock value. Additionally, generous affiliate programs ensure that many webmasters are once again working hard to spread the word of any home base
internet business that is willing to share a bit of the profit.

Yet there are also other modes of advertising your home base internet business within your own community. For example, if you own a doggie biscuit business that relies on internet orders, why not pass out fliers in your community with the web address? Additionally, you will be able to attend pet shows and spread the word there. Print ads in major dog fancier magazines will target an audience most likely to purchase your product, while sponsorship of local events – such as toy drives during the holidays – will not only benefit your community but also your business! If you have a family that is very supportive of your efforts, you may even get the kids involved – a little dress up fun in a nice costume is a definite perk – handing out samples of your doggie biscuits.
