Get A WordPress API Key For Your WordPress Blog

With the growing popularity of blogs and the ease to obtain links through comments on blogs, it didn't take long for programmers to come up with automated tools to blast link packed spam comments to unsuspecting blogs.

Some just turn comments off for their blog but to me that eliminates one of the great features of making your blog interactive for your visitors. Comments can open discussion between the reader and the blogger. Your blog's visitors can even subscribe to a post's comments, getting notified of any new comments, keeping your readers coming back.

The WordPress plugin, Akismet checks comments posted on your blog posts against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.

To activate Akismet from your WordPress blog dashboard, click Plugins, scroll down and click Activate next to the WordPress Akismet plugin. After you do that you will see a box near the top of the dashboard that looks like this:

Akismet is not active. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work.

Click the link in the message, and then the Akismet Configuration panel will open. You should then see this in the middle of the screen:

Please enter an API key. (Get your key.)

On the top of that page click the Sign Up tab, fill in your information and if you have a self-hosted blog choose the Just a username, please option.

Be sure to use a good email address in here to get your login information and WordPress API key, click the box to agree to legal junk and click next.

Check your email and click the confirmation link from WordPress to activate your account. You should then see a page that reads, "Your account is now active!" Click the login link within the text of that page and login.

You should now be at the WordPress.com site, if so click the dropdown box on the very top right of the page and choose "Edit Profile", now you are in the Global Dashboard.

Within the WordPress Global Dashboard you can now see your WordPress API key on the right side of the page. Oh, and by now you should have also got the API key in an email from WordPress also! But you should still edit your profile while you are in the Global Dashboard.

Now its time to place the API key in the Akismet WordPress plugin; go back into your WordPress blog dashboard, click the link on the Akismet WordPress plugin warning box near the top of the dashboard. Paste the WordPress API key in the box and click update options.

If the warning box is not visible check to see if Akismet is activated, click Plugins and look for the status of the plugin on the right. You will notice that all activated plugins are highlighted green. When Akismet is activated you can configure it by clicking Plugins, and look for the Akismet subpanel (white text in the dark blue bar) directly below and to the right of then main panel menu.

Keeping comment spam out while allowing your blog visitors to comment, will not only keep your blog clean but more interactive and help generate more traffic.

One of the advantages of online [tag]affiliate marketing[/tag programs is that your visitors are already online and are willing to look and shop online for many items. Whether through necessity or with discretionary income, online shopping is gaining ground each year and more people are spending more money online than ever before.

As online security continue to improve using credit card numbers or checking account information is being more freely entered and in order to tap the online market, internet sellers need to have what their visitors are looking for. If you were to open a business today, any business, would it be one that sold a one-time item, or something that people kept coming back for? If I were to put the effort into getting a customer once, I would want to keep them as customer for as long as possible.

Earning residual income has become one of the most popular business models for affiliate marketing. Why go through all the effort to get someone to buy just one widget when you can get him or her to pay for your widget and the widget sharpening service every month?

Prospective customers usually need to see your ad, product or service several times before they feel comfortable enough to buy. That means getting your ad in front as many people as possible. It’s a numbers game that must be played but why not at least put it to work for you?

For your first work at home business you may want to keep costs down and work on just producing any amount of income, while still learning the ropes. With residual income opportunities, since someone else is earning a rresidual income from your efforts, you should have plenty of support and training from the program you choose.

Do not go into a residual income opportunity assuming that all you need to do is sign on and pay a small monthly fee and others will do the work for you. If you go in with this mentality you will most likely fail to produce the results your looking for.

You have either put a lot of effort into your website or you have paid someone else a lot of money to put the effort in for you. Either way, whatever the purpose of the website, you want to get the most out of it. The question now becomes, how you can tell if your website is likely to succeed.

Why?

The first thing to do is to ask yourself why you have set up the website. Are you trying to sell a product or provide information or something else? What do you want to happen when a visitor lands on your pages? "For a man without a destination no wind is favourable" (An old saying attributed to many). If you do not know exactly what you want to happen, how can you expect the visitors to your website to know and do it? You are the one who ought to have the site set up to direct people to their destination. If you don't know what that is, then all is lost.

Your visitors probably know why they visited your site. You too must know why they came and help them do what they came to do. If your website does not provide what they need they will move on to another one. Just because you are getting all the traffic you could hope for does not mean that your site will succeed.

Your Website's Conversion Rate

You will need to measure your success rate. There are a number of ways to do this. One is the Conversion rate. Simply put, the conversion rate is the rate at which you convert visitors into buyers. Or if you are not selling it is the rate at which you convince people to do whatever it is you need them to do. It could be to sign up for your newsletter of subscribe to something else, etc. If you have one hundred visitors to your website per day and you convert two, your conversion rate is two percent.

It is a reasonably good measure of the quality of your website. If your site is not converting, you will know that you need to make changes to the site. However, it could also mean that you marketing or advertising campaign is sending untargeted Web Traffic to your site. In other words sending visitors who are not in the least bit interested in what you have to offer.

When you Internet business, there are certain notions that will require conscious thought. Things like how to market the business and where as well as who do you need to help get it off the ground. While starting an internet business may seem like a daunting task, it is no different than starting a traditional business.

While traditional businesses require advertising, it is usually done with a shotgun approach. You shoot advertising all over the place and hope to hit something with your message. By default, your advertising for a traditional business will be focused on the geographic area in which your business is located. You must also adjust pricing to meet what your market will bear.

When starting an Internet business, your market can be less focused on location since your business will be global. You will also need to be more descriptive in your product presentation as people will not be able to touch and feel the items and will have to rely on what you say about them. You not only have to market the what but also the how and why. Getting people to part with their money through an internet net business involves selling the business as well as an individual product or service.

It has always been said that necessity is the mother of invention and coming up with ideas to earn extra money seems easier when you really need to do so. When trying to earn extra income ideas may seem a little far-fetched at first, but if you consider the ideas they may seem workable.

When looking to earn extra money you have to remember the idea is not to replace the money you are already earning. In other words, do not give up a regular job in order to earn money from another source. Money earned that way is not extra and you may have trouble staying caught up. Rather, any time and effort you put into earning extra money has to be above and beyond what is normally expended.

A part time job in retail is always possible and with many 24-hour stores it is possible to find a part time job that you can work around your current schedule. Although working out of the house, traveling to a job site, will also take time away from your family. You may want to consider a part time career in wholesaling in which you purchase merchandise at wholesale prices and resell it either at craft shows or online.

Visiting wholesale outlets you can occasionally find a really good price on quality merchandise that you can advertise and sell. Develop a retail website on which to sell this type of merchandise and then keep your eyes open for more bargains. With many of the online pass-through banking companies offering a free secure shopping cart, you can achieve the sales and collect money from your buyers quickly and safely. Many even offer buy now buttons and are capable of printing shipping labels. With home pickup available from most shipping companies, you will not have the time and expense of taking your packages to the post office.

Several companies are advertising how you can make a ton of money with online auctions and even offer to provide the product and handle all shipping and handling. All you need is an auction ID and the willingness to list their products on the auction. Typically, you are also charged a monthly fee for the privilege of listing their merchandise. The difference between the sell price and your cost of the merchandise, minus the listing fees, is your profit. While this may be promising as well as profitable, if the items do not sell, as the one who listed the merchandise you are still responsible for the fees.

Joining with existing online companies to push their products is another method of earning extra money, and several offer a viable business model. Realize that in order for you to achieve sales, you will need to promote your individual website that offers the product for sale.

Just about anyone can Earn Extra Income from home and with an online business you can make money online and work at home. Many companies are willing to warehouse products for you and drop ship to your customers. By launching your website, gaining sales and developing your market you can earn a living online.

For example, you find a source for printer cartridges that you can sell 30 to 40 percent below retail. When an order arrives, you send it in with payment, along with the address of where it should be shipped and put the balance in your pocket. Other companies may allow you to direct the customers to send their order directly to the company for processing and at the end of the month or week, the company will send you any money you earned.

Just as every person is different so is every internet business opportunity. They are not designed to be acceptable to everyone and not everyone is designed to work at home with an online business. But once you decide to make the plunge, pretend your on the side of the pool. It is OK to dip your toe in the water and check the temperature, but at some point you will have to get wet. Some will do this by slowly walking into the water while others will close their eyes and jump right in.
